I recently sold my first piece of art! I didn’t even have to try and the buyer was really psyched about it- such a great moment.
Even tho it’s gone , I wanted to share it and the process with you.
I did a bigger canvas than usual- 22×24 If I remember correctly.
Let me get right to the pics:
So you can see the first photo is me laying down some texture on a gessoed canvas with texture paste and my Catalyst tools. After that I used a mixture of colors to get my background. I really love all the contrast and depth. Next photo- adding some gesso, darker colors here and there.
Next, some random sized and colored blocks with some outlining which I covered with a wash of gray brown paint mixed with Golden Acrylic Glazing Liquid, which I wiped with a baby wipe after a minute or so.
A little fine tuning of the colors, then adding strips and blocks or darker colors- black, brown and some acrylic ink-which I turned into lollipop flowers surrounded by dots of liquid pearls.
I posted this on FB and almost immediately I had an offer-higher than the price I quoted them, btw-so woot! Hopefully one of many, although any artist knows it isn’t always easy to part with our work because each piece is a part of us.
The last photo is of all the products that were used to create this piece. I call it ” The Garden”. I hope you enjoyed it!
So, another practice in white space in one of my Dylusions Art Journal.
Again, I started by laying down some gesso- then did some circle stencils with fluorescent paints- the positive and negative side of the stencil. Then used gesso to layer some Julie Fei-Fan Balzer Funky Tag stencil.
Some more gesso smeared around followed by some stamping with Michelle Ward’s shutter stamps- some green gold Golden acrylic paint-and magenta Ultrech acrylic on the inside and outside corners. I did some random pseudo writing with my uni-ball- some dots of Liquid Pearls and finally blobs of black india ink spread around with a straw. A few other miscellaneous stamping and voila!
I have prolly left a step or two out-but you get the idea I hope.
Here are a few other photos including some close-ups.
Thanks for playing!
I’m just pulling out all the stops today with several posts-but i have to try to make up for lost time as much as possible!
I really love this one- i decided I really needed to attempt a white space project as I reallly tend to fill up all my available space with paint and whatever I can find. As I often say ” Why do it, when you can overdo it?” LOL!
Anyhow- so here I am using Dyan Reavely’s Mixed Media journal. I started with a layer of gesso. When it was dry I sprayed the pages with water and dropped various colors of acrylic ink on it in layers- which I used Dyan’s technique of rolling over it with paper towels between every color layer and semi drying each one.
I then added some more gesso here and there- upon which I attached a premade tag – a doily sticker, and some partial pages from a book from The Onion-, which I covered with some more gesso and black stamping-some homemade stamps and some wooden block stamps. I finished with Golden green gold liquid acylic and some lettering I added with black india ink and a paintbrush.
I am really proud of this one and happy I was finally able to show a little restraint!
I chose Just Keep Moving as my footer because I had recently made a career move in the midst of many coworkers who were unhappy and yet seemed really afraid to step out and find work elsewhere because they had been there so long-they had just stagnated and felt stuck- also it pertains to interpersonal relationships that pretty much tend to work the same way. It’s hard to move on after you have made such an investment and worked so hard on something that you know has no real future.
So- here is to all of you who know you need to move on and want to, but are afraid. Just keep moving- you will make mistakes and be really afraid sometimes-but that is better than letting yourself be stuck somewhere that will never make you happy.
Cheers and thanks for playing!
