Skissedilla Challenge- July

Standard

Time for another Skissedilla challenge based on this sketch:  The ladies there and all the ones who enter are so amazingly talented that I really had to pull out as many stops as possible for this one-sometimes I am just amazed at my audacity!

I altered the shutters by gessoing over the original gold and green patina and instead added my own green, yellow , rust and some red. I am really pleased how they turned out. I also added my own touches to the little yellow flowers circling the page with some yellow Martha Stewart glitter pen and blue paint. Fingers and toes crossed!

A closer look at some of the details

Another close up Mr. DeMille!

WOYWW #164

Standard

So, here it is, another Wednesday and time to show you what my creative mess looks like today ! Take a look at other “messes” and maybe post yours over at Julia’s blog.

I am on my second effort to put together a page for the latest WhiteWith1 layout contest. I had to totally trash the first one-FAIL!

This one shows promise if I can keep from screwing it up- that’s a big if!

Maybe you can see my carved stamps sitting there waiting to be used (not on this page tho)- My sweet son carved them for me. One day I will probably get around to doing my own, but for now- he is my go-to guy.

I was tempted to cover up my work, you know, just in case-but I trust you all 🙂 !! Who knows? It might end up right next to the last one!

White With 1- White With Polka Dots and Tape

Standard

On the heels of my first layout challenge and “A Christmas Story” moment (“It’s a major award!”) – well, it was to me anyway 🙂 I wanted to enter the next WW1 challenge with this  layout featuring my lovely eldest daughter.

I was trying out something new as far as scrapbook styles go- the multi layered look with all the curled edges-not my usual style, tho I don’t know if I have a “style” really- I like to try new things all the time. The only thing I can say about my style is that it is not neat and orderely. LOL!

I have incorporated polka dots in all kinds of ways here, from using several papers with dots, to dots of Liquid Pearls, and dots on the little flower peeking out at the top.

The tape (handmade) shows up underneath the photo where it is holding the crystal branch on to the page and also underneath the corner of the butterfly at the top left of the photo.  I really loved how freeing this challenge was! I hope you like it too!

CSI- Case file #27 Layout Challenge

Standard

The ladies over at CSI are doing another case file this week that I wanted to get in on. I barely made the deadline! Here is the challenge:

The  deadline is today, so if you want to take part-you still have a little time left! There is also another one that isn’t due until July 22, if you need a little more time.

I don’t normally do outdoorsy layouts, so this one started out as  real “challenge”-ha! But I soon found my groove with my tree stencil and some colored modeling paste-I think I got off to a pretty good start. I wanted to keep the actual photo and the surround pretty simple since I did so much with my background. If you look closely, you can see little yellow stars I stenciled with Pan Pastels. I also used a chicken wire stencil with some blue paint and added a little here and there-the rest is mostly stamps and papers with some faux stitching around the edges.

Thanks for stopping by!

As a final touch I added a couple of sprays of Dylusions ink spray in yellow.

I used a cloud stencil and painted it in with blue paint mixed with a little white and outlined it with yellow watercolor crayon and brown pastels-applied some Stickles on them and then rubbed some gesso over the edges with my fingers. I added some stamped and cut out clouds on top with pop dots to give it dimension.

SCRAP 365- Sketch Challenge-July

SCRAP 365- Sketch Challenge-July

My first entry in the SCRAP 365 sketch challenge! Doing a sketch challenge is a little tricky for me because I’m just not sure which parts they consider mandatory and which ones are optional. I used Echo Park paper for the background.

First of all, here’s the sketch:(nope)  ( I don’t know why, but it took me way too long to realize this is not the right sketch-because obviously there are no butterflies- so this is my official disclaimer like a month late-wrong sketch!) I didn’t really want to do all those butterflies and torn edges-so I just made it my own in other ways. I did add a torn edge on top and slipped a little bit of Distress Stained doily in the pocket.

Here is my interpretation of the challenge with a photo of my youngest daughter giving my son a kiss on the day of his prom-(actually his girlfriend’s prom 🙂

A close up showing the homemade washi tape I made (one is made with yellow Dylusions spray, a sentiment stamp and a dot stamp- the other one which frames the photo above is sprayed with 2 colors of green ink and a rolling stamp)-also check out the homemade tags peeking out of the side. I love coloring doilies with distress stain and sprays!

More homemade tape with the other end of one of my homemade tags up at the top.

Honorable Mention at White With 1!!!!!

Standard

Wow! I am so excited! Only my second time entering a layout contest online and I got honorable mention! I was so shocked to see my page there-but how cool is that?

Here is the link to see my entry  http://whitewith1.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/ww1-june-winners.html

I’m actually probably lucky to have gotten that as I realized too late that I was supposed to be using LIGHT blue-and as you can see- not so much.

So happy! (heel clicks in the air)
