Sold!!

Standard

I recently sold my first piece of art! I didn’t even have to try and the buyer was really psyched about it- such a great moment.

Even tho it’s gone , I  wanted to share it and the process with you.

I did a bigger canvas than usual- 22×24 If I remember correctly.

Let me get right to the pics:

So you can see the first photo is me laying down some texture on a gessoed canvas with texture paste and my Catalyst tools. After that I used a mixture of colors to get my background. I really love all the contrast and depth. Next photo- adding some gesso, darker colors here and there.

Next, some random sized and colored blocks with some outlining which I covered with a wash of gray brown paint mixed with Golden Acrylic Glazing Liquid, which I wiped with a baby wipe after a minute or so.

A little fine tuning of the colors, then adding strips and blocks or darker colors- black, brown and some acrylic ink-which I turned into lollipop flowers surrounded by dots of liquid pearls.

I posted this on FB and almost immediately I had an offer-higher than the price I quoted them, btw-so woot! Hopefully one of many, although any artist knows it isn’t always easy to part with our work because each piece is a part of us.

The last photo is of all the products that were used to create this piece. I call it ” The Garden”. I hope you enjoyed it!

Assorted Journal Pages

So today I find myself with quite a backlog of work that hasn’t been blogged, so instead of doing a post for every piece, I figured I would just post some pics on two or three posts instead. I hope you enjoy them!

Foamboard Art

Standard

So I had a fair sized piece of foamboard left from my Christmas project and I decided to throw some art on it. Of course.
I started by using some of the spraypaint I had left with some 6×6 stencils, covered that with some paint and Liquitex acrylic ink, more stencils with ink sprays, some dress pattern papers ,stamped with some Martha Stewart bird stamps, random doodles..Christy Tomlinson pattern stamp etc…..Also the white dots are done with inkssentials enamel accents. Whew! Talk about the longest, run on sentence!
Oops! I almost forgot to tell you about the tag. It’s one I did previously with various layered stamps and a Tim Holtz sentiment stamp.
   Now on to the photos!!

Mystery- Art Journal Page

Standard

If there is one word for my artistic style, it would be……………………………hmmmmmmmmmmmm……. is there one word for it? I dunno- Hot Mess? That’s two words-  work with me people!

Anyhow- whatever it is- here is the latest. The title is a shortened version of  ” The Lord works in mysterious ways–His wonders to behold!” And I am here to tell you-that is the TRUTH!  You can’t figure Him out no matter how much you think you have- something happens in your life and you just shake your head and wonder. Sometimes in sadness, but sometimes in absolute happiness.  Here’s to more happiness!!!

So, blah, blah, blah……get on with it!   If you look closely you might see a few pieces of a phone book underneath everything 🙂 Personally I am loving the scribbles. I really should pay attention to my steps so I can describe them to you-but frankly I can’t remember them all- I know I started with some Liquitex acrylic inks, then stenciled with the blazonery stencil, a multi circle stencil I got at Staples (or was it Michael’s?) I even laid down a piece of string in a haphazard way and sprayed some pink Dylusion spray over it. There is also a  clock stencil I put here and here with some purple madder Josonjas acrylic paint-  and then smeared everything with some gesso. I hope that helps.

Composition Notebook Collage

Standard

Ok- so, I did this as a sample for an art class I’m teaching to little homeschool babies (not literal babies-everything cute is a baby in my house)-I had no intention of posting it on my blog-but it just turned out so awesome that I couldn’t help myself!  Do you ever have the experience where you are working on whatever and no matter what you do with it-it just won’t happen-that thing just keeps fighting you and you keep trying to force into submission-but then, when you finally give up and just let it tell you what it wants, then all of a sudden-it comes together like a plan on the A-team!(which, btw- dumbest show ever!)

It’s weird-but that’s what happens to me all the time-and it was no different for this. When I stopped trying to force it and just let it happen-it was so cool!

So, I started with a piece of thick preprinted paper- like those big sheets you get at an art store- cut it down and glued it. Brushed over it with gesso- ripped up some book text-glued that (mod podge all over the place on this thing)-some walmart butterfly tape-a strip of scrapbook paper (with good times printed on it) then I got out some doilies that I had already dabbed with brown and blue ink-so I added some purple and cut them up and glued them down as well. On top of that I adhered cut up pieces of a paint card-and for the finishing touch-some drippy circles of purple Liquitex acrylic ink.( the color has a name-but as I have said several times- I am not getting up to go find out-it’s purple, ok?)  Finished it all with some blue ink smeared on the edges and done!   It’s just a notebook cover-I know and prolly I am just waaaaay too proud of myself-but it is what it is. Now, go glue some stuff!

Poisoned Apple Art Journal Page

Standard

I don’t know why I named this ‘Poisoned Apple”- it’s just the first thing to come to my mind. I just couldn’t bring myself to muck it up with words or any other embellishment-so it stands as is.

For the background I used some of my inked up paper from previous works and cut it up and used gel medium to adhere it to my pages. I just love those big rolls of craft paper- they are perfect to work on and when you’re done, you cut out the cool stuff and throw the rest away!

After I adhered the background- I cut out pieces from a shopping bag from Donna Downey’s with old timey news print on it and stuck in a couple of places and spread some gesso around it. I also used some on both sides of the inclusion.

The ink splatters are probably one of my favorite parts to this page-I used Liquitex Acrylic Ink there.

The apple shapes are a foam stamp that I spread some paint on- and then I finished by using the stamps my son carved for me.

So, enjoy!
