Canvas love

Standard

Lately I have been doing a little stretching, art wise. I began by making my honey a birthday canvas , rather than a birthday card, and  I had so much fun with that, I just kept going. It’s interesting how each medium I work with seems to inspire a different sort of artistic expression. Whether I am working on watercolor paper, my Donna Downey art journal or even Dyan Reavely’s art journal. Or even just scrapbooking. They all have a different feel.
So, below are just a couple of canvases I have been working on lately. I have another one I did yesterday that I will post as soon as I am able.

This one is my version of a piece I saw hanging at the doctor’s office the other day. I wanted to take a pic of that one, but I didn’t want to be weird (er than usual).

This one started as pseudo scrapbook page in black and pink which I adhered to the canvas and immediately detested. So of course my only choice was to cover it with gesso, tissue paper and a bottom

layer of paint before something decent started to emerge. And yay!! I am really pleased with it now.
BTW , having a WordPress app on my phone is great, because I can blog in bed. Nice!
Hope you have a day full of good surprises.

Assorted Journal Pages

Standard

So today I find myself with quite a backlog of work that hasn’t been blogged, so instead of doing a post for every piece, I figured I would just post some pics on two or three posts instead. I hope you enjoy them!

Mystery- Art Journal Page

Standard

If there is one word for my artistic style, it would be……………………………hmmmmmmmmmmmm……. is there one word for it? I dunno- Hot Mess? That’s two words-  work with me people!

Anyhow- whatever it is- here is the latest. The title is a shortened version of  ” The Lord works in mysterious ways–His wonders to behold!” And I am here to tell you-that is the TRUTH!  You can’t figure Him out no matter how much you think you have- something happens in your life and you just shake your head and wonder. Sometimes in sadness, but sometimes in absolute happiness.  Here’s to more happiness!!!

So, blah, blah, blah……get on with it!   If you look closely you might see a few pieces of a phone book underneath everything 🙂 Personally I am loving the scribbles. I really should pay attention to my steps so I can describe them to you-but frankly I can’t remember them all- I know I started with some Liquitex acrylic inks, then stenciled with the blazonery stencil, a multi circle stencil I got at Staples (or was it Michael’s?) I even laid down a piece of string in a haphazard way and sprayed some pink Dylusion spray over it. There is also a  clock stencil I put here and here with some purple madder Josonjas acrylic paint-  and then smeared everything with some gesso. I hope that helps.

Gangsta Prom- Dressing up old scrapbook paper

Standard

Haha! Now that I have your attention-spit out that gum and look at me when I’m talking to you! Oh=Whoops!- Never mind

Mixed Media techniques make it really easy to turn an old, dated piece of scrapbook paper into something really cool- this is a piece of Basic Grey from the Ambrosia (I think) collection-as I’ve said before, I’m too lazy to get up and go check.  These are photos from my son’s girlfriend’s prom-she is the cutest little thing and that dress is killer! Of course he cleans up pretty well too. He went out and got a new hairdo and paid a buttload of money for that tux!

Hence the photo

So forget that these photos are like  a year and a half old- just let it happen-it’s fine. I mean, I could start from the beginning of time and post all the baby photos from never mind how many years ago!

Art Journaling on Donna Downey work mat

Standard

So, I was in the art room last weekend wanting to do something-but not sure what, and I came across this  paper work mat I saved from a class at Donna Downey’s shop.  I thought it might be fun to fiddle with, so fiddle I did!

I had no plans -I just turned on my music and got to boogeying (I have no idea how to spell that)- sidenote: I have lately been accused of being a hippie and also “out there”- which I was assured was a good thing (?) Hmm..ok , if you say so- so basically, I was in there being a hippie apparently! I dunno, there are worse things to be called.

Anyhow- since I know you cannot wait another minute to see my magnificent hippie art……………………………….(that would be the drumroll)

I personally really love the look of the stenciled brick I did with modeling paste-which is laid over the printed brick pattern already on the paper-which is mostly visible on the top left part.  Sometimes I just have so much fun-and this was one of those times!

Sometimes I Believe- Art Journal Page

Standard

Hmmm.  So,maybe I will call this SASS (short and sweet Sunday). I just have an art journal page to share– the really poor handwriting says ” Sometimes I believe that I can do anything, yet other times I feel, I’ve got nothing good to bring.”

I have had way to many of the latter lately-that’s ok, right?

I will say the background started with some old dress pattern paper-and what follows is just a mixture of paint, sprays and acrylic ink. I did the circles first with a stencil, then outlined with brown acrylic ink and filled in with paint and gelatos. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for the next round!Image
