Mystery Abounds

Standard

Ok, so I don’t know what to call this one- maybe someone can help me out?  I gotta say tho, I really like it.  I was so into it, I totally forgot to take photos of the process. Whoops! One of these days I am going to break down and make some videos. Also, why do I like circles so much? And why would I have a dream that a co worker and I were being chased by Zombies? And why did I capitalize “zombies”?  So, what is my New Years resolution, you ask? Admit it, you asked. Hmmm….learn how to actually draw? Learn Excel once and for all.  The list is long…

Anyhow, back to art!

For this canvas, I used several colors of Daler-Rowney pearlescent colors as a base. Also, mostly Josonjas acrylics- including Vermillion- I really love Vermillion.

I love how it looks when I layer the pearlescent colors on top of each other and blend with my fingers. Pretty freakin cool!

Welp, that’s all I have to say about this piece- thanks for playing!

Sold!!

Standard

I recently sold my first piece of art! I didn’t even have to try and the buyer was really psyched about it- such a great moment.

Even tho it’s gone , I  wanted to share it and the process with you.

I did a bigger canvas than usual- 22×24 If I remember correctly.

Let me get right to the pics:

So you can see the first photo is me laying down some texture on a gessoed canvas with texture paste and my Catalyst tools. After that I used a mixture of colors to get my background. I really love all the contrast and depth. Next photo- adding some gesso, darker colors here and there.

Next, some random sized and colored blocks with some outlining which I covered with a wash of gray brown paint mixed with Golden Acrylic Glazing Liquid, which I wiped with a baby wipe after a minute or so.

A little fine tuning of the colors, then adding strips and blocks or darker colors- black, brown and some acrylic ink-which I turned into lollipop flowers surrounded by dots of liquid pearls.

I posted this on FB and almost immediately I had an offer-higher than the price I quoted them, btw-so woot! Hopefully one of many, although any artist knows it isn’t always easy to part with our work because each piece is a part of us.

The last photo is of all the products that were used to create this piece. I call it ” The Garden”. I hope you enjoyed it!

Dark and Stormy Night Canvas

I really need to remember to take more photos of my process- sorry:

This first one is when I am already almost done with the canvas. I started with a stenciled base using heavy modeling paste. One of those big stencils you get at Michaels.

I then painted it with some Josonjas acrylic -rose madder and a teal color (can’t remember what brand)- I did a lot of pastels in greens, pinks and yellows and then sprayed some workable fixative over it before my next step.

Following all that, I attached some crocheted lace pieces with some mod-podge-which I painted over with acrylic inks and rubbed over it with dark glitters. I also affixed some green cord with more modeling paste and covered that with glitter as well. I also rubbed the areas around the lace with some dark colored pastels followed by more workable fixative. Some various ink drips here and there and voila!

This piece just seems very dark and brooding- I prolly was fighting with my ex at that point. I wish you could feel it, it is so full of texture!

Thanks for playing folks!

You’re Not the Boss of Me!…Art journal page

Standard

After too many years spent with certain people who try to force me into their idea of who or what I should be (so I can fulfill their needs and desires)- I am struggling to figure out who I am and who I’m supposed to be (sounds like a Gavin DeGraw song)-I haven’t gotten there yet, but this page expresses my very strong opinion that no one (on earth) has the right to define my reality!

To do this background I first started with a layer of Josonjas acrylic in Napthol Red Light-then I stamped a harlequin pattern and embossed with clear embossing powder-covered that with a layer of Josonjas in Rose Pink- after that dried an rubbed over the images with a baby wipe-then emphasized some of the diamonds with Jacquard permanent resist pain in Russet- I then added some gold rub ons, brushes of gesso, bright pink paint, gold metallic gelatos and acrylic paint, with some of the Russet added along the edges followed by some distressing with a brown ink pad. When in doubt, just keep laying on color! If you want it more blendable, use your fingers- it’s so much fun! OOps! I don’t want to forget- I also used a circle stencil here and there with my bright pink paint and also used the ghosted image (turn over the stencil and then use it as a stamp) Whew ! That sounds like a lot-but it’s totally doable.

Some more rub ons, stamped ladies I cut out and adhered to both pages-bird on a wire tape and stamped and written lettering. I ended up gluing the inclusion flaps together.

A view of the other side.
